Honda recalls 554,000 CR-V and Pilot crossovers over lighting issue
Filed under: Recalls, Safety, Crossover, Honda
Honda is recalling 554,000 crossovers to repair the low-beam headlights. The models affected are the 2002-2004 Honda CR-V (pictured above) and 2003 Pilot. A possible fault with in the headlight switch wiring could cause the low beams not to work.
We don't need to tell you why that's hazardous.
Honda will notify owners beginning in late April, at which time they can take their vehicles to dealers for repairs free of charge. The company has set up a website where owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall, and customers can reach out to Honda directly by calling 1-800-999-1009 (select option 4), as well. Follow the jump for a press release with more details.

Reader Rants: Takes on Jose Aldo, ?The Ultimate Fighter? and touching gloves
Welcome to another edition of Reader Rants, where your opinions take center stage. Taken from the Cagewriter Facebook page, each rant comes from a Cagereader. If you want to join in, go to Cagewriter's Facebook page, like it, and comment on stories.
No opponent has yet been named for Jose Aldo's title bout in Calgary. One reader wants to see him try out lightweight instead.
I'd like to see him test the waters at 155, a la Anderson vs Irvin/Griffin. I think he would be the most likely candidate for a concurrent belt holder. (Jones at HW is ridiculous. He is an awesome, absolutely spectacular fighter, but his frame is not that of a HW.) -- John Wilcox
Friday night's "The Ultimate Fighter" quick ending also caused a reaction.
I don't like abusing the term "got caught" when referring to a fighter being stopped via KO or submission, but that's exactly what happened to Daron Cruikshank. I appreciate what James Vick pulled off, but I can't unequivocally say he's the better fighter. -- Brandon Artiles
But nothing inspired more comments than Sheila Gaff's knockout of Jennifer Maia. When Maia raised her hand to touch gloves, Gaff started swinging.
They touched gloves earlier. It should be discussed before the fight if they will touch gloves at 1st round. For all we know, she had her arm outstretched to size up distance. I doubt it, but we have no clue what was going through her head. Maybe they decided to touch gloves at the beginning of the round and the other girl screwed her over, who knows? -- Will Howard
She was totally in the right throwing that punch. The referee says 2 things at the start of the fight "obey my commands at all times" and "protect yourselves at all times". Touching gloves should be outlawed once the fight begins, it causes too many of these issues (Wes Sims v Frank Mir 1). It also puts the fighters at a disadvantage. If they touch gloves they give up their range, if they don't it's perceived as poor sportsmanship when all they're doing is following referee instructions. -- Ellis Lett Garnette
The bell rang, it was on. Yes, touching gloves is a classy thing to do but it is a tactical decision that came back to bite her. That said, it was a cheap shot. -- Nick Sicinski

Video: Watch and hear Flash Engineering's awesome new Saab 9-3 touring car
Filed under: Motorsports, Sedan, Europe, Videos, Saab, Racing
The Saab brand may be meeting its demise, but that doesn't mean that its cars won't live on for years to come. And we aren't just talking about its passenger cars, either. Take, for instance, the Saab 9-3 TTA touring car we showed you last week. The racer, constructed by Flash Engineering and Team Tidö, is currently preparing to do battle in the Swedish Racing Elite League, with entries from Volvo, BMW and Citroën clearly in its sights.
Recently, the widebody 9-3 TTA completed its first round of testing in France, with Swiss driver Fabian Thuner piloting the car around the country's Alés track. After a few more tweaks, the car will then be sent to Sweden where it will undergo official testing in Karlskoga and Anderstorp, driven by the actual TTA drivers who will pilot the car during the Swedish Racing Elite League competition.
For now, click past the jump to see (and hear!) this seriously awesome 9-3 racecar for yourself. We'll definitely be keeping our eyes on this one.

Bellator?s Joe Warren ready to move on and ?pummel Pat Curran?
HAMMOND, Ind. -- Bellator featherweight champ Joe Warren admits he does not take losses well, but he was forced to deal with it after getting knocked out by Alexis Vila in the Bellator bantamweight tournament.
Luckily, he doesn't have to relive memories of that 1:04 fight. He doesn't have any memories of the fight at all.
"After that last fight, I don't remember it. I hate to say it. I'd never been knocked out or submitted in practice to the point where I went out," Warren told Cagewriter.
He admits that he was emotional in the loss because fighting means so much to him.
"You put everything you have in one basket, when it doesn't work, it's emotional. When I lose it takes a piece of my heart away. I don't take losses well."
The last memory MMA fans have of Warren is of him laid out from Vila's punch, but he's ready to stop that losing streak in his title bout against Pat Curran on Friday night.
"The reason I'm a champion is that when I'm down, I push back up. What's done is done. I can't go back and change it. Now I have to focus on the task at hand, and that's to pummel the [expletive] out of Pat Curran," Warren said.
"The only thing I'm worried about for me is to impress myself. I've worked as hard as I can in the room. I'm still a young fighter. I haven't really had a fight yet where I've impressed myself."
Though fans may wants a spectacular knockout or submission, getting the win is most important for Warren, even if that means grinding out a decision.
"Keep my hands up, my chin down, and winning a five-round war. I'm here to win. I know you guys want knockouts and submissions. I need a win to keep my belt and take care of my family."
After Friday night, Warren will get ready for the U.S. Olympic Trials, where he will try to make his first Olympic team. Warren won a world championship as a Greco-Roman wrestler but was suspended for the Beijing Olympics. He also wants to return to Bellator's bantamweight tournament because it's a better weight class for him.
Even with all that on his plate, he isn't worried about focus.
"I'm constantly focused. I believe in myself, I believe in my training. I have a great support system, so all I have to worry about is taking a deep breath and pressing myself and putting on a show."

Editor?s note: Ch-ch-changes at Cagewriter
Happy Monday, everybody. After a weekend full of armbars, smack talk, controversy, judging issues, and a new champ, we have plenty to discuss in the MMA world. I promise that we will get to that in short order.
But before we do, I wanted to let you know about some changes at Cagewriter. I'm Maggie Hendricks, and I'm your editor. Steve Cofield will focus on his ever-growing sports radio empire, and you can still find him on Twitter and at ESPN 1100 in Las Vegas.
Cagewriter is here to cover the ins and outs of mixed martial arts. Sometimes that's fun, like enjoying Rousimar Palhares' first birthday cake with him, or chronicling some of the ridiculous swag that has found its way into our sport. Sometimes that's analytical, like when we break down fights or judges' decisions. Sometimes it's hard, like when society's ills find their way into our sport. Mostly, it's a place where we can discuss how MMA brings people from all over the world together to use the common language of fighting.
The site won't be the same, but I will work hard to bring you all the madness MMA has to offer. I'll need your help, too. I want to know what you want to see on Cagewriter. Talk to me on Facebook, on Twitter, or via email.
It's time to turn and face the strange of MMA. Hope you enjoy.

It also takes you behind the scenes in Australia, including a dissection of the Ian McCall/Demetrious Johnson debacle. The two are expected to rematch at the TUF finale in June. You'll get to see White tell McCall and Johnson separately about the draw.

First Drive: 2013 Ford Mustang GT [w/video]
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, Ford, First Drives
Poor-Man's BMW M3 Is Sharper Than EverFord has been quietly blurring the line between muscle car and sports car since the 2010 Mustang debuted at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. Lighter, smaller and nimbler than rivals like the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger, the Mustang established itself early on as being just as happy on a road course as it was tackling the quarter mile.
With the introduction of the 5.0-liter, dual-overhead cam V8 for the 2011 year model, the Mustang found itself armed with the muscle necessary to blacken the eyes of its crosstown rivals after a painful period of trudging along with an antiquated 4.6-liter lump under the hood. Despite the additional brawn on hand, the pony has nonetheless been routinely bested in sales by the larger Camaro.
In an attempt to pull past its big-boned rivals, Ford has opted to continue its strategy of aggressive model improvements, and buyers who put their cash down on a 2013 Mustang can look forward to a new suite of technology, visual improvements, more power and available options aimed at making it an even more capable track machine. The tricks have turned one of the best performance buys on the market into an even more tempting option for buyers who want more than just a boulevard cruiser.

Report: BBC tells complaining vicar Jeremy Clarkson's blasphemy is "everyday language"
Filed under: Convertible, Performance, Etc., UK, Celebrities
The BBC has come out in defense of Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson after the Reverend Graeme Anderson, vicar of St. Mary's Church in Radcliffe-on-Trent, complained that the entertainer "trivialized, belittled and cheapened" Jesus Christ. Clarkson has a long history of rousing the ire of different groups, and Anderson specifically took issue with a segment in which Clarkson took the wheel of the KTM X-Bow. After hearing Clarkson's exclamations of "God almighty" and "Jesus wept," Anderson says he was both surprised and upset. The vicar has since vowed to never watch Top Gear again.
After petitioning both Clarkson and the BBC for an apology, the network responded by saying the speech is part of everyday language, and that while its program strives to portray society as it really is, it respects the "fundamental human right to exercise freedom of thought, conscience and religion."
Clarkson has remained uncharacteristically mute on the dustup.

Frankie Edgar vs. Benson Henderson II is on
According to Dana White's Twitter feed, the muddled mess that is the lightweight title picture has been cleared up. After Edgar lost his championship belt in a decision to Benson Henderson at UFC 144, Edgar will rematch with current champ Henderson this summer. An exact date or event was not given, but the UFC has planned events for a pay-per-view July 7 and a Fox show on August 4.
Anthony Pettis and the winner of the upcoming bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller have been mentioned as possible contender, but Edgar is the winner. He pushed for the rematch in every interview that came his way. Edgar believed he deserved the fight because he had to rematch close fights twice.
But as Snoop Pearson said, "Deserve got nuthin' to do with it." The fight is good business. Edgar and Henderson's first fight was an exciting, five-round brawl. The rematch will draw more fans who heard about the first match-up. Whether it's on Fox or pay-per-view, a lightweight title bout will offer good TV.

Talbert Gorum, 48
Talbert Gorum, a 48-year-old black man, was found dead Sunday, March 4, in the 1000 block of East Vernon Avenue in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as an unknown person.]
Firefighters arrived shortly before 6 a.m. on March 2 to find flames pouring from a one-story apartment building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took more than 60 firefighters about half an hour to knock down the blaze, officials said. A black woman, identified by the coroner's office as Jane Doe, was found in the apartment. She was injured and taken to USC University Hospital in critical condition. She died later that day.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner?s office, said coroner's officials are withholding Doe's name until they notify next of kin of her death.
At the time of the fire, officials received reports that a second person had been with Doe before the blaze but fled before firefighters arrived.
However, firefighters continued sifting through the debris and on Sunday found human remains.
?We could not immediately ascertain the age or gender,? Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The coroner's office has since identified the second person as Talbert Gorum. Winter said preliminary coroner's records show Gorum suffered smoke inhalation and thermal burns. His cause of death is undetermined as officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the fire.
The building was originally built as a home and was converted at some point into a small medical office, then boarded up and abandoned. It had been vandalized before the fire, officials said.
The Fire Department, assisted by a dog trained to detect fire accelerants, has learned that the blaze was deliberately set, Humphrey said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Los Angeles Fire Department Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section at (213) 893-9800. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

Thomson and Misaki take decisions while ?Jacare? and Sayers cruise at Strikeforce
Josh Thomson won in his first fight in more than a year with a decision over K.J. Noons in the co-main event at Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey in Ohio Saturday night. Thomson was not happy with his performance.
"It was [expletive]," Thomson told ringside commentator Mauro Ranallo after the fight.
Thomson used his wrestling prowess to control K.J. Noons for the first round and much of the second. A frustrated Noons had no idea how to get out from underneath Thomson's frame. In the third, Thomson used a beautiful takedown to set up an arm triangle choke. The submission looked close as Noons had trouble defending, but he was able to maneuver out from the choke. Still, Thomson controlled Noons' every move, and held on until the fight ended.
Though he and Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez have fought twice, a trilogy is possible.
"I do feel like [a championship shot] next," Thomson said.
In other action, a flat Paul Daley tried to grapple his way to a win over Kazuo Misaki, but it didn't work as Misaki won the split decision 30-27, 28-29, 29-28. Daley was able to get takedowns, but a faster Misaki had better stand-up. In the third, Daley threw an elbow from Misaki's closed guard to open a gushing cut just over Misaki's eye. The fight was allowed to continue as blood poured from Misaki's head like a faucet. Misaki still held on for a win.
After beating up Bristol Marunde for three and a half rounds, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza showed off his world-class jiu-jitsu with an arm triangle. Souza tapped out Marunde, who had taken the fight on short notice, at 2:43 in the third round. After the fight, Souza said he wants another chance at the Strikeforce middleweight belt, which he lost to Luke Rockhold in September.
Lumumba Sayers made quick work of Strikeforce veteran Scott Smith. He slammed Smith early, and caught him in a guillotine to end the fight at 1:34 in the first round. This is Smith's fourth loss in a row, and fourth in five fights.

Cagewriter audio: Victor Conte speaks on Quinton Jackson testosterone issue
It's been another one of those weeks for the UFC.
First it was the Dakota Cochrane story and his past in the pornographic movie industry, now comes another star of the sport admitting that he's taking part in testosterone replacement therapy. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson admitted to using TRT.
Performing enhancing drug expert Victor Conte, known best for his involvement in the Balco scandal, tweeted earlier today that the UFC needs to deal with the issue of TRT head on and embrace more stringency when it comes to testing.
We tracked down Conte on "The MMA Insiders" show in Las Vegas. He did a spectacular job of explaining why he thinks MMA fighters turning to TRT is a farce.
Conte's explanation of Jackson's bloated physique makes some sense. It's not often a fighter misses weight by six pounds. Jackson lost the fight last weekend to Ryan Bader but he said it definitely made a difference in getting ready for it:
It was hard for me to train, it takes time to heal, I couldn't do certain things, but this was my first time ever using testosterone. I took what the doctor prescribed to me and I went to the pharmacy? I gave myself small doses and that [expletive] immediately changed me, that's why I am saying now I am not going to retire. I am not gonna retire no time soon, it's just unfortunate that I got this injury.
Conte's reference to VADA is the volunteer anti-doping agency.
